As Part of Fingal Inclusion Week, Ballyboughal is coming together for a very special 5km fundraiser — an event that not only supports our community but also honours one of our village’s greatest sporting figures: Paddy White of Richardstown, a remarkable athlete who ranked 2nd on the World Marathon List in 1911.
More than a century ago, Pat White earned international recognition for his superb running achievements. At a time when Irish athletes had limited resources and opportunities, Pat’s determination and natural ability propelled him onto the world stage. His legacy remains an inspiring reminder of the strength, resilience, and spirit that have always lived within Ballyboughal. Paddy’s story is also part of a wider family legacy. His brother, Peter White, was a brave Republican who died in April 1921 during Ireland’s fight for independence. Together, their stories reflect the twin threads of sporting excellence and national courage — qualities that continue to define our community today.
This year’s 5km event is an opportunity for us to run, walk, or cheer in celebration of these local heroes. Whether you're a seasoned runner or simply want to be part of something meaningful, we invite everyone to join us. All funds raised will support community projects and local initiatives here in Ballyboughal.
